Ocean Prince's Speech Style

Why does Ocean Prince talk like that in your 20th Anniversery patch?

Ocean Prince talks completely in katakana in the Japanese when he’s in fish form as a (painful to read) joke. Katakana is supposed to be reserved for foreign words or as emphasis—though there are a few exceptions here and there—and is not supposed to be used for literally every single word and particle. It is far more illegible for this reason.

The Fever 1 localization team decided that the funniest equivalent would be Shakespearian speech (hard to read, foreign, and silly), and we took that and ran with it a bit farther by also adding occasional French and swapping the letter s for z when it came at the end of a word. If we ever get the chance to translate the human Salde, we plan on reverting the z’s to s’s again to show a  shift between his fish lips and human pronunciations.

Ocean Prince’s speech patterns in Japanese are not actually all that archaic, he just has a royal tone (ぬ for verb negation, for instance). In this case we figured this would be the best and funniest way to make his words a bit of a struggle to read as intended in the Japanese.
