In preparation for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2′s release, we have translated some special tweets by the scenario writer of Puyo Puyo Tetris and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2! Please enjoy their insights into the characters.

■ The Extra Efficient Tetra Crew: Ess, the navigations officer who specializes in technical drafting; O, the communications officer, equipped with all sorts of functions; Ai, the mechanic who can detect mechanical anomalies with his dowsing; Jay and Elle, who can forecast the future with a mysterious power when they hold hands; Zed, who single-handedly manages the crew’s mental and physical health; and Tee, who voluntarily cleans the toilet.

Some have asked me, “What are the Tetra Crew’s favorite foods?” 
The following is noooot an official answer by any means (I must repeat this important reminder), and just me running my mouth.
I’ll be happy if you listen while keeping in mind that this is my personal opinion. 

O and Zed… Well to begin with, I can’t really imagine them eating anything… 
I can think of many different possibilities for Zed’s power source, but how does O function?
…Maybe it does eat after all.
But I can’t seem to think of what it would eat!
O is…a forever mysterious being.

Ai is a dog, so wouldn’t it be cute if he liked Churu?
I think it would be (Seriously!).
I can imagine him happily saying, “This is a wonderful food that is both delicious and packed full of essential nutrients,” just to be depressed when he finds out that it’s a treat for pets on Earth.
It would be nice if Risukuma was licking honey next to him at that moment.
(T/N: Churu is a type of wet dog treat.)

I think Jay and Elle are extremely curious about things that give off stimulating sensations like carbonated drinks and Watapachi. These twins have the same tastes.
It would be cute if Ringo offered them chips and said, “If you’re looking for something exciting, how about this?” just for them shriek at the spiciness the moment it enters their mouths. Ringo would earnestly apologize afterwards
(T/N: Watapachi is a type of cotton candy with popping/crackling candy in it.)

Though this might be an obvious answer, I think Ess probably likes parfaits and cakes.
They’re beautiful, come in many varieties, and are cute. It’s quite similar to her cosmetics-related spells, don’t you think?
Ess isn’t seeking anyone’s approval with this, she just wants to be surrounded by cute things and be cute. That’s the impression she gives me.

As for Ex, this is just my gut feeling, but I think he likes wagashi. He seems like the type to prefer things you can enjoy at a leisurely pace. He would have youkan or daifuku paired with a cup of tea as he admires the Constellation Zone with a contented sigh.
That said, he would be grateful to receive anything!
He’ll even eat things containing whipped cream with a smile, though he’s not fond of it.
(T/N: Wagashi are traditional Japanese sweets typically served with tea. Youkan is a traditional Japanese dessert made of red bean paste, agar, and sugar. Daifuku is a type of rice cake stuffed with bean jam/bean paste.)

For some reason, Tee also strikes me as someone who likes wagashi.
He’d like things that are soft, jiggly, but not too sweet, like mizu manju.
Since he’s motivated by a burning desire to become stronger, he doesn’t have many likes or dislikes, but squishy things are his weakness. Pudding seems like it would fit the bill, but for some reason I imagine him with wagashi instead. I wonder why?
(T/N: Mizu manju is a traditional Japanese dessert made from kuzu starch and filled with red bean paste. It’s somewhat translucent and chewy.) 

Ah, I just remembered something about Jay and Elle!
I think they’d really like a certain crunchy ice cream!* 

…This thread has become entirely about “favorite desserts” rather than “favorite foods”, huh. Please forgive me and take this as me talking about their favorite flavors rather than specifically naming their favorite foods.
(T/N: Yoshino is likely referring to a popular Japanese brand of crunchy ice cream known as Garigari-kun.)

Pardon the messy sketch, but this is how I imagine Mr. Tee eating a “squishy, round, sweet thing (mizu manju)” for the first time.
I took the opportunity to draw him in a yukata for this occasion.

I won’t be talking about how much I like certain characters here, since I already love all of the characters in “Puyo” and “PuyoTet”.
Rather, I think often about the ways in which my understanding of them is still lacking.
But tonight, I’ll take this chance to talk about the Tetra crew.
Please do reply with any questions you may have. I’m sorry if there’s anything I can’t answer. 

First off, Jay and Elle. I get the impression that they encourage each other by playing pranks.
I think they may actually be rather lonely.
But they can dispel all their worries by kicking up trouble! This is something they can do precisely because they are twins.
They’re quite a different pair from Yu and Rei.

Mr. Zed… Does he have a heart?
Honestly, I have moments where I think of him as a program meant only for protecting Ess.
He’s an AI constructed by Mr. Ex, after all.
But I do believe that he experiences something beyond his programming when Ess hugs him.
On top of that, his health management system is cute!

With Mr. Ai, what you see is what you get!
He was a timid puppy to begin with, but when Mr. Ex picked him up, he made a resolution to be strong. I think that part of him is cute.
As he’s quite intelligent, he likely reasoned that he couldn’t continue on as he had before. I think his admiration for Mr. Ex also played a role in that. I very much want to see him support Mr. Tee. His ongoing character development is precious!

O is in a similar position to Puyo’s Carbuncle.
It carries out an important role in the Puyo Tetris world by connecting Tee and Ex, but I think O’s inner thoughts are something we Earthlings can never hope to understand.
What makes it trustworthy is the kindness it has for the people it interacts with. That’s how I think of it, anyway.

Ess is a complicated girl, isn’t she?
She’s entangled in her love for her “Papa”, but that isn’t her real Papa.
Will she find out the truth some day? Though, I don’t think her love for Zed would change if she did find out.
Besides that, I think the slight rivalry she has with Tee is so cute that I can’t get enough of it!

Ex wasn’t really a typical final boss.
It’s sad to be alone, but since he loves everyone, he wants to protect them.
Yet, as he listened to Tee’s reports, it became impossible for him to quietly carry on as the Keeper of Dimensions.
I can understand those who think, “What are you doing? That’s your job, isn’t it?” But… I think he is a very loving person regardless.

All that’s left is Mr. Tee, but…

This is harder for me to write about.
I feel like he was the one who changed the most during Puyo Tetris’s story.
At the start, he was the Tetris King who commanded the S.S. Tetra, the unifying force of his lively crew.
At that time, he had forgotten about Mr. Ex’s existence…

This is true for the other characters as well, but I’ll especially leave Mr. Tee to your imagination.
